Exhibit at Library Focuses on Light
David Dipino Sun Sentinel – April 15, 2009

         Palm Beach Post

The exhibit Light Reflections, displaying works by Delray Beach award-winning artist Patricia W. Maguire, will run through May 13 at the Delray Beach Library's second floor Gallery, 100 W. Atlantic Ave.
"We're proud to present this stunning new art exhibit," said Bonnie Stelzer, the library's director of community relations.
Maguire, who was born in Buenos Aires, received her Bachelor of Science in Studio Arts at Skidmore College and a Masters in Art and Animation from Syracuse University.
She has won numerous awards for her work in acrylics, pastel and enamels, Stelzer said.
Maguire draws her inspiration from the play of light on color and form.
Stelzer said each of her paintings shows a spot of nature or a person with whom she has temporarily fallen in love.
"I love to incorporate trees into my landscapes and travel to find color we just don't have in South Florida," Maguire said.
Her 25 creations at the Upstairs Gallery feature work Maguire did in Stockholm, Sweden.
"My husband and I were supposed to be bike riding, and I just kept on pulling over and taking photos of these amazing colors... ," Maguire said.
Rio de Janeiro, Caracas and New York City have been the sites of some of her shows.
Maguire's work ranges from $400 to $6,000, with 10 percent going to the Delray Beach Public Library.

Judge's Comment:
"I am very impressed with the range of materials, techniques and subject matter presented... the work chosen for this exhibition demonstrates impeccable composition skills.
More importantly each work goes beyond the seen to represent the unseen – the intangible of thought or emotion. "

A Day at the Beach

First Place Prize for "Day At The Beach",  Acrylic on Canvas.

Judge's Comment: "First Place, Patricia Maguire's "Day At The Beach" not only was beautifully painted,
but more than that, it holds the viewer with substance. A narrative to indulge in, not only another "pretty"
painting. Patricia allowed her painting to be continued well beyond the edges of the painting. "
